How To Wear: The Maxi

A few blog posts ago we talked about our summer obsessions, one of which is maxi skirts. WE LOVE THEM! and we're sure our mothers do too!

Fashion forecasters predict maxi skirts will be HUGE this fall.

The question is how do you wear the maxi skirt without looking like old-fashioned or worse: OLD ?

Here's how! (in our opinion)

1- Stick to straight cuts and soft fabrics. It looks modern and chic.

2- Tuck in your blouse/shirt

3- Wear a belt if you have the tinest feeling that you look a bit shapeless.

4- You CAN wear jackets or cardigans with your maxi outfit. (you will NOT look like an old lady)

5- Avoid TOO flowy skirts. Avoid wearing shapless or bulky tops. They might look good on the runway but not on the regular fashionista!

These are not rules, they're just guidelines. So if you break any of them, and think your outfit looks good then it probably does. (just don't break all of them at once!)

Will you be wearing a maxi skirt? More importantly how?

Style Crush: Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard is a french actress who's been in a lot of hollywood movies. You've probably seen her in Big Fish, A Very Long Engagement, and most recently Inception. However, her most memorable performance was in the french musical La Vie en Rose portraying French singer Edith Piaf.

We love Marion because something about her reminds of Paris. Just like Paris, Marion is chic, glamorous, and elegant. That's probably why she was chosen by French fashion house Christian Dior to represent the Lady Dior ad campaign.

Here are some of Marion's memorable looks:

Our Daily Makeup Routines

S:
Step 1: always use moistrizer!
Step 2: apply a bronze colored base, I use talk to the tan by benefit
Step 3: dust some dark brown eye shadow on your lid, mac has the best eyeshadows!
Step 4: curl your eyelashes and apply some mascara my current fave is Dazzle by mac
Step 5: apply some shimmery tan blush, like Nars's lovejoy
Step 6: Lipstick, I'm currently using mocha by mac

A:
Step 1: Moistrize!
Step 2: apply some foundation only on areas that really need it
Step 3: I have gentically dark under eyecircles. This can be solved by applying orange concealor (yes orange) and then one that is close to your skin tone
Step 4: line your inner eye rims with white eye kohl. (Sometimes I use black kohl under my lashes)
Step 5: put on some mascara, I use benefit's bad gal for everyday use
Step 6: apply a peachy colored blush to the apples of your cheeks. I like Gilda by Nars
Step 7: Lipstick time! During the day I wear pinky nudes, like mac's brave

Since we can't post picures of ourselves for some cultural reasons, we hope the pictures would inspire you.

The White T-Shirt All Dressed Up

All fashionistas, even the unfortunately tasteless, are familiar with the basic white T-shirt.

The white T-shirt is better known as a day off garment. Worn with juciy tracksuit bottoms, jeans, or ANYTHING. It's a quick go to when you're not sure what to wear, or how to wear something.

I wear my white t-shirt oversized under my abaya with leggings. It's comfortable and efficient. I just replace the leggings with pyjama bottoms when I'm wearing my t-shirt as a pyjama top.

We rarely think of the white t-shirt when it comes to dressing up and parties.

I have proof that we should.

Celebrity evidence:
Mary-Kate Olsen (I guess that's her) wears it a bodycon skirt for a red carpet event.

Miroslava Duma pairs it with a blazer for chic office wear.

Lauren Conrad teams her sleevless version with an animal print scarf and a classic Chanel flap for a chic day-to-night look.

How will you wear your white t-shirt?
